We're a little over two weeks out from the November 1 drop, and the forehead list is sitting at two names right now (full standings at the bottom). Today's question is one I get constantly: does an oily forehead cause breakouts? Not on its own — oil by itself isn't a pimple — but a forehead that runs oily gives clogged pores more to work with, and for most of us the forehead is where we make the most oil in the first place.
Why is your forehead so oily in the first place?
Because it's part of your T-zone — the strip across your forehead and down your nose where oil glands sit packed closer together than almost anywhere else on your face. More glands in one place means more oil on the surface, which is why your forehead can look matte at 8 a.m. and shine by lunch. Add a Florida summer (I'm in Port St. Lucie) or a hard workout, and that strip is the first place to gloss over.
Does oily skin on your forehead actually cause pimples?
Oil is one ingredient in a clogged pore, not the whole recipe. A breakout generally needs oil plus dead skin cells plus trapped bacteria inside a follicle, so a shiny forehead raises the odds without guaranteeing anything. Plenty of oily foreheads stay clear and plenty of dry ones break out — but if yours is both oily and clogging, the oil is worth managing. Chasing a totally oil-free forehead, though, usually backfires.
How do you keep an oily forehead from getting so shiny?
Wash twice a day with a gentle cleanser, blot (don't scrub) through the day, and use a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer even when that feels backwards on oily skin. Stripping your skin bone-dry signals your glands to pump out more oil to make up for it, so the shine comes back harder. Gentle and consistent beats harsh and occasional — most people over-wash the forehead and then wonder why it never settles down.
Should you try to dry out an oily forehead completely?
No. A forehead with zero oil isn't the goal, and it isn't really achievable anyway. Oil is part of your skin barrier, and some shine by afternoon is normal and healthy. The move is balance: manage the excess, keep the barrier intact, and keep your hands, your hat brim, and hairline grime off the zone so you're not adding to the pile.
What's the best way to handle a pimple on an oily forehead?
Once a whitehead has actually come up, a hydrocolloid patch is the tidiest option — it's known for absorbing the fluid from the spot, covering it, and keeping your fingers off, which is half the battle on a zone you touch and wipe all day. Start with clean, dry skin: oil is the one thing that stops a patch from sticking, so pat the shine away before you press one on. Our Spot Dots are built for exactly this and are available now. If your forehead breakouts are painful, deep, or just won't quit, that's a dermatologist conversation — some forehead bumps aren't ordinary acne at all.
Because the whole forehead can gloss and break out as one zone, we built a single wide patch to cover the strip instead of dotting six little circles across it — a simplified hydrocolloid formula, with the final ingredient list published at launch. The Forehead Patch is coming in November — join the forehead list.
Race update: nose 3 · chin 1 · forehead 2 · kids 1.
The zone with the most names launches first on November 1st — pick yours.
